The sacroiliac joints, in short SI joints, connect the lower spine with the left and right wings of the ilium. A tight system of ligaments only allows them minimal freedom of movement. If the sacroiliac joints are strained beyond their natural capacity, this can cause serious complaints. Typical triggers include massive shock impact, incorrect posture and degenerative changes, but also the dilation of the pelvic ring when giving birth.

In fact, a large share of all complaints around the lumbar spine can be attributed to disorders of the sacroiliac joints. The pain often radiates from the buttocks down into the legs.
